YES! What better place to start your next chapter? Central Library is an iconic downtown location, with ample parking, breathtaking art installations, award-winning architecture and filled with the greatest love stories of all time.

Our team boasts a wedding planner with multiple years of wedding industry experience and will work with you to make your big day extra special.

Beyond being an ideal place to exchange vows, having your wedding at the library also symbolizes something more. Kitchener Public Library is a community hub; an inclusive place for ideas, opportunity and growth. What you spend here gets funneled back into the community through our numerous programs and services.

Where exactly will the wedding ceremony take place?

Ceremonies will take place at Central Library in downtown Kitchener at 85 Queen St N. Our beautiful Reading Lounge will be set up for you and 30 of your guests. 20ft ceilings, full length windows with tons of natural light, and the library you love- it's going to be perfect!

Also, you’re helping the environment by saying I do in a Gold Status LEED certified building with a green wall, inhouse bees, and a community learning garden.

I’m ready to book my wedding ceremony, what do I do next?

Send us an email with your preferred date. Our current available dates are listed at and wedding start times are usually 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, and 7pm. Once we have the perfect date and time set, we will email you a contract to sign and instructions on how to secure your date.

When and how do I pay?

A 50% deposit is required at the time of booking. The balance is due two weeks prior to your wedding day. You can pay in-person at Central Library using cash, cheque or debit. You can also pay online with a Visa, Mastercard or Interac money transfer.

How do I get a Marriage License?

Couples must get a Marriage License prior to the wedding date. Please fill out the City of Kitchener's Marriage License Appointment Request form to book your appointment. Your license is valid for 90 days. A license issued anywhere in Ontario can be used for your ceremony at the Kitchener Public Library.

The officiant will sign the Marriage License with you and your witness on your wedding day and then mail it to the office of the Registrar General. Afterwards, you will need to apply for your Marriage Certificate. Your officiant will assist you through this process and provide the information you need.

What decorations will you provide for my ceremony?

We will set up our Reading Lounge with a beautiful book case arbour. The best part? Since this ceremony is all about you, our team will hand pick books that reflects your story. This can be a reflection of your interests, hobbies, heritage, your professional or personal paths or even your favourite childhood memories.

What's a ceremony sound bundle?

Your ceremony sound bundle includes an easy to use, high-performance speaker, two microphones and the ability to plug in a phone or laptop with a headphone jack. The technical specs (if you need them) are as follows:

Bose L1 Model II
     ➔ High-performing powered speaker system with bass module
     ➔ Tonematch mixer with 3 inputs available for XLR cables (microphones)
     ➔ Ability to connect one laptop or phone via 1/8 inch cable (provided)
     ➔ 2 microphones with XLR cables

Please ensure to bring your music on a phone/tablet or laptop that has a headphone jack (also called 1/8" or 3.5mm port) as we do not have conversion dongles onsite.

Can we write our own vows?

Yes, we will connect you with your wedding officiant and you can work together to create a personalized ceremony. You can choose to write your own vows or use a template the officiant offers.

Is my digital wedding invitation personalized?

The invitation will be customized with the names of the couple, wedding date, and time. You can choose to get it in a print ready pdf or a .jpg format to share digitally with your friends and family.

Is parking available at the Central Library?

Parking is free on Sundays on site in the Civic District Parking Garage located directly beneath the library. We are also transit friendly and offer a bike rack located along Queen St. We are an accessible venue.

Is the Kitchener Public Library accessible?

Yes, the library is an accessible building and meets Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements. You can learn more at

Is alcohol permitted during, before or after my ceremony?

No, alcohol is not permitted at any time during your Ceremony in the Stacks reservation (this includes as wedding favours).

Who can get married at the library?

Kitchener Public Library is an inclusive space and all love is welcome here.

Where can I learn more about the wall mural in the reading lounge?

In January 1962, Kitchener-born artist Jack Bechtel was commissioned to create the mural in the reading lounge at the central library. A 12 ½ by 36 feet masterpiece with the theme “Enlightenment” and mankind’s progression from the darkness of ignorance to the enlightenment of truth.  At the time of Bechtel's death in 1966, the mural was considered his best-known art.
